A New Year Supper at The Battery

On a crisp January evening, members dazzled in their best cocktail attire, making their way to private social club, The Battery. Once past the mysterious, frosted glass entrance doors, guests were ushered up to ’The Library’, discovering a spectacular cocktail reception that awaited their arrival. As guests mixed and mingled to soft Hôtel Costes tunes, handcrafted Clase Azul Tequila cocktails and perfectly chilled glasses of Oceano Wines’ 2017 Chardonnay elegantly floated around the room. After indulging in a few delectable libations such as the ‘Mestizo’ with Clase Azul Plata and the ’Smoke N’ Sexy’ featuring Clase Azul Mezcal, guests began taking their seats down two long dramatic tables, adorned in flickering candles and orchid arrangements inside repurposed vases made of Clase Azul Tequila bottles.

As the private club’s executive chef put the finishing touches on the classic and exquisite dishes, Oceano Wines’ Founder, Rachel Martin, accompanied by Co-Founder and husband, Kurt Deutsch and Oceano Wines' Winemaker, Marbue Marke, welcomed the crowd, diving into Oceano’s story and the wonderful wines featured during dinner. Guests savored the first few sips of 2018 Chardonnay and 2018 Pinot Noir, as a decadent saffron risotto composed of locally sourced butternut squash, crispy herbs and fresh parmesan, made its way to each setting. With its bright hues and mouthwatering scent, the risotto was the perfect opening dish, warm and savory, preparing guests for their choice of main entrees; wild salmon on a bed of seasonal vegetables with a beurre-blanc, and a grilled NY strip steak with a side of smashed potatoes , seasonal greens and beurre-rouge. Once elegant pear frangipane tarts, perfectly topped with just the right amount of vanilla anglaise, were savored around the table, guests raised a final toast with neat pours of Clase Azul Reposado and Clase Azul Mezcal in hand; the perfect nightcap to a perfect evening amongst amazing folks! 2020 has arrived!
